The ‘North Earlsdon Neighbourhood Association’ is made up of interested members of the North Earlsdon community from -
Our aim is to protect and enhance our environment and promote a strong sense of community across our neighbourhood. We are committed to improving the quality of life in the area by attracting external funding for community activities and area amenities. We also act as a channel of communication with the City Council over planning and development issues, keeping people informed of of things affecting our area and helping neighbours get to know each other better.
NENA was instrumental in the founding of Friends of Spencer Park and we continue to work with the ‘Friends’ to promote use of the park and further its restoration. We have worked in partnership with the City Council to map and replace missing and damaged trees in our tree lined streets. This included a major replanting project in Spencer Avenue in 2011. NENA is a founder member of ‘Coventry Action for Neighbourhoods’ which has been key in focusing the City Council on issues of sustainable communities and in particular the impact of the increase in landlord owned properties across the city.
We are recognised by Council Officers as an important channel for communication and consultation over a variety of issues and recent examples have ranged from the multi-million pound Friargate Scheme, around Coventry Station, to local street light replacement and a major cable laying project through our area. We have been active in raising local residents’ issues through liaison with Councillors. In 2010 we gathered a 500 signature petition about local parking issues and have continued to lobby for a local residents parking scheme. The City Council has now proposed a scheme for our area.
We have been active in building a stronger sense of community through social activities. We hold family picnics in Spencer Park and take part each year in the National Big Lunch. Our Annual Street Sale has become a city institution with around 100 stalls and many buyers each year. In 2013 the NENA Street Sale was nominated for a national award.
The group meets every two months and membership is free. We have an elected committee, but we are organised around Street Reps who ensure that everyone is kept fully informed. .
